ISHS Rules

Updated August 15, 2011

Eligibility

Middle School Division: Open to riders in 6th, 7th, and 8th grades.
Freshman and Sophomore Division: Open to riders in 9th and 10th grades.
Junior and Senior Division: Open to riders in 11th and 12th grades.

A rider must attend the school he or she represents at the horse show.

Varsity Show

All riders will compete in two Under Saddle classes.  Receiving a ribbon in either class, qualifies the rider to compete in the Over Fences class.  Once qualified, a rider is required to compete in the jump class, in their division.  If the rider can not ride the height or number of jumps required in their O/F Class, we ask that the rider either compete at a lower level or not participate in the show series until they are able.

Points from the top three riders from each school will be combined for a cumulative team score. Schools will compete for the title of Champion or Reserve Champion School for the show day.

Riders will also accumulate points individually. Each ribbon won at the show has a point value associated with it.  A First Place Ribbon = 7 points, a Second Place Ribbon = 5 points, a Third Place Ribbon = 4 points, a Fourth Place Ribbon = 3 points, a Fifth Place Ribbon = 2 points and a Sixth Place Ribbon = 1 point.  At the end of the regular season, the top riders in each division are invited to show at the Year End Invitational.

Proper Horse Show Riding Attire is required.

Points and Awards

Points will be awarded for the First place through the Sixth Place riders. They will be awarded as 7,5,4,3,2,1 respectively.

A Champion and Reserve ribbon will then be awarded at the end of each division.

No additional points are awarded for being the Champion and Reserve Champion of the division.

If a division is split into Group A and Group B, due to the number of riders, each class in the respective group will be awarded First through Sixth place ribbons, but the champion and reserve ribbons will be awarded to the two highest point riders from the combined groups.

The Surrey Equitation Medal Class

This class is open to Advanced Level riders, only.

All Equitation Medal riders will be competing in the same division, regardless of age.

There will not be an Under Saddle portion in this medal class.

The course may include: roll backs, trot fences, broken lines, combinations, in and outs, narrow jumps, fences on the short side of the ring, a long approach to a single jump, riding without stirrups or a halt for several seconds.

The price of the medal class will be $36. The horse lease fee will be waived for the Medal Class.

The Equitation Medal Class will recognize the top eleven (11) riders with ribbons, but only the top eight (8) riders will receive points

Points are accumulated separately from the general standings.

Team Points

There is no minimum number of riders required for a team to qualify for team points.  If only one rider competes, team points will be awarded to them.

No more than
EIGHT (8) riders will be allowed to compete for points on a team, at each show.

For each school, the points of the top three riders, at each show, will be combined to produce the “team score” for that show.

The Champion School and Reserve Champion School for the day, will be announced after each show. Ribbons will be awarded to their school representative.

End of Year Awards

Riders will accumulate individual points throughout the show season.  The top riders, in each division, will be invited to compete in the Invitational Show to determine the Divisional Champion.

Riders that were awarded the Divisional Champion or Reserve Champion distinction at the Invitational Show must move up a division --- no exceptions.  Riders in the Advanced Divisions may still continue to compete even if they have been awarded the Divisional Champion or Reserve Champion titles.

The top eight schools will be awarded ribbons.  This ranking will be based on the the points of the top three riders for a school, at each show.
