ISHS Sportsmanship

  The purpose of the ISHS is to give student riders a venue to do their sport in a team format and to represent their school.  The ISHS Series focuses on giving riders a positive experience in the Hunter ring.  That atmosphere is accomplished by expecting the competitors to exhibit good sportsmanship at every show.

Our mission is to offer student riders a venue which allows for competition in an atmosphere of fair play, encouragement and self confidence.

We currently support two different awards for sportsmanship in the Inter-School Horse Show Series.

The Mary Loftus Sportsmanship Award is given each year to the Varsity rider who shows exemplary sportsmanship both in and out of the show ring.  These riders embody the true motto of the ISHS.  This award is offered by Jan Martin in honor of her mother whom the award is named after.

This award is offered by Devereaux Raskauskas in memory of the ISHS mascot Casey.  The  C.A.S.E.Y. Award is presented to the JV rider who demonstrates the following  attributes:

Cooperation - Accommodating - Supportive - Enthusiasm - YAMMER/ NOT!

At each show, the riders/coaches/parents are encouraged to fill out a nomination form for a rider whom they have witnessed performing an act of sportsmanship that needs to be recognized.  All of these nominations are collected and reviewed, and one rider for each series is chosen to receive a year end award.
